Can You Connect Your Bank to ChatGPT? How to Analyze Your Real Spending with ChatGPT and Claude
ChatGPT and Claude can't connect to your bank on their own. To analyze your real spending, the AI needs an app linked to your bank that hands it the data through MCP.
Snabber is that bridge for Brazilian banks: you connect your accounts once through Brazil's Open Finance and then ask, right in the chat, things like "how much did I spend on food delivery this month?" or "which subscription could I cancel?". Below are the three ways to use AI with your finances, a step-by-step setup and the questions most worth asking.
Why can't ChatGPT see my bank statement?
Because no Brazilian bank shares your data with a chatbot. Since 2021, anyone who wants to read your account has to go through Open Finance Brasil, the Central Bank–regulated system where you authorize, inside your own bank's app, a participating institution to read your data for a set period.
ChatGPT and Claude aren't part of that system. So if you ask "how much did I spend on groceries this month?", the AI has only two options: guess, or ask you to paste the data. For it to answer with your actual numbers, something has to fetch that data from the bank and deliver it to the AI securely.
What are the ways to use AI with your finances?
There are three paths. All of them work, but the effort and the result are very different:
| Paste your statement into the chat | Spreadsheet + AI | MCP connector | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Download the statement (CSV, OFX or PDF) from each bank and attach it to the conversation | Keep a spreadsheet of your spending and ask the AI to analyze it | An app connected to your bank gives the AI the data when you ask |
| Effort | Every time you want an analysis | Always entering or importing | Connect once |
| Several banks and cards | One file per bank, each in its own format | You merge them by hand | All together, already categorized |
| Up-to-date data | Only up to the download date | Only up to your last update | Syncs with the bank automatically |
| Cost | Free | Free | A paid app plan (Snabber has a 7-day free trial) |
If you use a single bank and want a one-off analysis, pasting the statement does the job. Just be careful not to send more than you need: a statement includes the names of people who paid you or whom you paid, plus your account details.
If you have more than one bank or card, or want to ask often, the connector pays off: the AI answers using all your data, always up to date, without you downloading anything.
What is MCP, and why does it matter here?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for AI connectors, released by Anthropic, the company behind Claude, in late 2024 and later adopted by OpenAI in ChatGPT. Think of it as a power outlet: an app that "speaks MCP" can be plugged into any compatible AI, with no custom integration.
In practice, when you ask something about money, the AI realizes it needs your data, asks the connector only for what it needs (for example, "spending by category in September") and answers based on the result. It never gets your password or free access to your account: only the answers to the queries it makes.
You authorize data sharing through Open Finance, inside your bank's app.
Brings accounts and cards together, categorizes spending and keeps everything up to date.
ChatGPT or Claude query Snabber through MCP and answer in plain language.
How do I connect Snabber to ChatGPT or Claude?
It takes about 5 minutes. First, create your Snabber account and connect at least one bank: the 7-day trial already includes MCP and one bank connection.

- In ChatGPT, on the web, open Profile → Settings → Plugins → Developer mode and turn Developer mode on.
- Go back to Plugins, click Explore plugins and then + to add a new one.
- Paste the URL
https://snabber.com.br/api/mcp. - Sign in to your Snabber account when prompted and choose the workspace the AI can see.
- In a new conversation, mention @Snabber and ask your question.
OpenAI renames these menus often, and Developer mode may not be available on every ChatGPT plan. If something doesn't match, the video below shows the full path (it's in Portuguese, but the clicks are the same).
What should I ask the AI about my finances?
The AI answers best when your question says what you want to know and for which period. Pick a goal and a period to build your question, then paste it into ChatGPT or Claude once you're connected.
What were my top 5 spending categories over the last 3 months? Show the amount for each one and what changed compared with the previous period.
Other questions that work well:
- "How much was left over at the end of each month this year?"
- "Which expenses did I have this month that I don't usually have?"
- "How much do I pay in subscriptions per month, all added up?"
- "Is this month's credit card bill above my average for the last 6 months?"
- "How much do I spend on groceries per week, on average?"
- "On which day of the month does my balance usually hit its lowest point?"
- "If I cut leisure spending by 20%, how much can I save by December?"
A tip: if an answer looks off, ask the AI to list the transactions it used in the calculation. That way you can check whether it understood the question and whether any purchase landed in the wrong category.
Is it safe to let AI see my bank data?
It's a fair question. It helps to separate what each party sees:
The Open Finance authorization happens inside your bank's app. Neither Snabber nor the AI receives your password.
Open Finance data sharing is read-only: it can't send Pix transfers, pay bills or move money.
By default, the connector only queries. Creating or editing entries depends on you enabling it per workspace, and every deletion asks for confirmation.
Revoke access under Integrations in Snabber, or remove the connector in ChatGPT or Claude.
The thing to watch is something else: the answers the AI receives become part of the conversation and fall under OpenAI's or Anthropic's privacy policy. If you don't want your conversations used to train models, turn that option off in ChatGPT's or Claude's privacy settings. And, as with any conversation, avoid sharing a link to a chat that contains your numbers.
How much does it cost?
Snabber's MCP connector is part of the paid plans, and you can try it first:
With MCP and 1 connected bank. No credit card and no charge at the end: afterwards you go back to the free plan unless you subscribe.
The Basic plan, the cheapest one with MCP. Bigger plans connect more banks. Prices as of October 2026, in Brazilian reais; see current ones on Plans.
On the AI side, the connector works with your ChatGPT or Claude plan, but some connector features depend on each one's plan.
Ask about your money the way you ask about anything else
Create your account, connect your bank and link Snabber to ChatGPT or Claude. The 7-day free trial already includes MCP.

Can I connect my bank directly to ChatGPT, without another app?
No. ChatGPT isn't part of Open Finance, so it has no way to read your account on its own. Without an app in between, the only option is to download your statement and attach it to the conversation.
Is it free to use AI with my finances?
Pasting your statement into the chat is free. Snabber's MCP connector is part of the paid plans, starting at R$ 19.90 per month, and the 7-day free trial already includes MCP and one bank connection, with no credit card.
Which banks does it work with?
Snabber connects to more than 50 Brazilian institutions through Open Finance, including Nubank, Itaú, Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Caixa, Santander, Inter, C6, BTG and Sicredi. Accounts, credit cards and investments are all available to the AI.
Can the AI send Pix transfers or pay bills for me?
No. Open Finance data sharing is read-only, so neither Snabber nor the AI can move money. The most the AI can do, if you allow it, is create or edit entries inside Snabber.
Does ChatGPT keep my financial data?
The answers the connector returns go into the conversation history and fall under OpenAI's privacy policy (or Anthropic's, for Claude). You can delete the conversation and turn off the use of your chats for model training in the privacy settings.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You just paste the connector URL into ChatGPT's or Claude's settings and sign in to your Snabber account. For developers, there's also a documented REST API.
Does it work with AIs other than ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes, with any MCP-compatible client. Setup for other clients is on the connector page, at snabber.com.br/api-mcp.
